The Kick-off!

By Pelé Sports

Our launch event went off today and a new global football brand is born!

Pelé himself provided our company with its vision: To ensure that all players and fans can share the joy and hope of the beautiful game through our products, no matter what their life circumstances. That means giving back by producing gear with an optimum price-performance ratio – maintaining the highest quality in all products.

In keeping with the Pelé Sports philosophy, the event was held far from the typical glitz, opting instead for a pickup match with some young players at a township’s dirt pitch, overseen by Pelé himself. The match was part of a series of small-sided pickup games, called “Finding Pelé” that will be held throughout the World Cup in eight different townships. We’re donating uniforms to the kids and footballs, too, in partnership with FREITAG. The footballs, made of recycled truck tarpaulins, are designed to endure the rough dirt pitches common to the townships. There was music, dancing and a freestyle demo, too. Truly Futebol bonito!

The matches will be filmed as part of a “Finding Pelé” video, to be shared on the Pelé Sports website, so stay tuned.

The first shipments Of Pelé Sports gear will hit select soccer retailers in early July. We’ll be posting a list of shops shortly, so check back soon.

Finding Pelé Day 2

By Pelé Sports

6am and I’m almost ready and dressed to go. Probably one of the most important and inspirational days of my life. I’m going to meet him: Pelé. The greatest footballer of all times. As I sit in the van to the launch of Pelé Sports I think back on what I’ve done to get to this stage of my life; the blood, sweat and tears that have been put into my football – so just to meet him for a minute makes it all worth it. I don’t whether I should feel scared or excited, or both to meet “the idol’s idol”, he is for sure the closest you’re going to get to god when it comes to football. (more…)

Opening whistle for Pelé Sports and Futebol bonito

By Pelé Sports

Big day for all of us! Today Pelé Sports launched in Johannesburg, South Africa, and “O Rei” himself blew the opening whistle! It was an amazing feeling being part of this launch event together with Pelé, Chief Mandela, the international press and our guests.

“I owe almost everything to football. I could travel around the world, get to know different cultures, and even earn money doing this. Football made so much possible for me, and that’s why I would like to give something back to it. Whoever works with me has to share my standards of offering a product of the highest quality. After all, everyone who wears these products should be able to identify with the brand and therefore identify with me, too. We are on the market with new products, with the brand Pelé Sports. And I’m positive everyone will love it”, said our Number 10 Pelé about the launch collection.

The first tricks, dribbling, and shots with our products were done at the launch by Adam and Craig, two young footballers, who will embark after the launch on a very special journey across South Africa. Under the banner “Finding Pelé” they will recruit young South Africans who live in communities and townships – where football provides them with joy even in difficult circumstances – to play for “Team Pelé”. And that’s why in addition to the player’s tricks on the “dirt pitch” the spotlight will also be on Futebol bonito, inspired by Pelé.

Finding Pelé starts

By Pelé Sports

Today is the start of the Finding Pelé journey. Our footballers Craig and Adam will blog directly from South Africa, as they seek the essence of true football, literally back to “grass roots”. Great images, exciting videos and thrilling stories. Watch this space!

DEPARTURE AND ARRIVAL, 7th/8th June by Adam
It’s 4pm and I’m waiting to get picked up to go to the airport. It’s in those last few seconds that it hits you – I’M GOING TO SOUTH AFRICA!!! When the cab arrives I know this is it and I’m not going to see my family and loved ones for the next month. A 13-HOUR FLIGHT to Johannesburg where “officially” our journey begins! Johannesburg is amazing! And quite warm too, although it’s winter here and the locals disagree!

DAY 1 – 9th June – Johannesburg by Craig
TRAINING IN THE MORNING
On my first Morning I woke up around 8am and I was ready to go for a nice 25 minute morning jog to get my body and muscles all working again. I’ve got to keep my fitness up as I have a gruelling pre-season training regime to return to back home in England once this special journey is all done and dusted. So to me this would be a regular occurrence throughout the whole trip. The run was a good medium pace, but immediately I could feel the difference in altitude and difference within the air. trans Finding Pelé startstrans Finding Pelé starts (more…)

We’re going to slip on our Pelé Sports Pelada match vests to have a little friendly involving a group of South African kids, the two teams led by a couple of very, very famous people.

It all starts for Pelé Sports tomorrow – we’re looking forward to reporting directly to you on our blog about what promises to be a really exciting launch. Watch this space.

By Pelé Sports

And in Germany, we have made it into the “lifestyle bible” for men. In the World Cup special on GQ our shoes are in there. Looks damn good in the magazine, “legendary” they dub our boots! Great!
